What is a wheelchair lift for a van?
A wheelchair lift for a van is a powered platform, usually electro-hydraulic, that raises a person seated in a wheelchair or mobility scooter from ground level to the vehicle floor and lowers them again. The user stays in their chair and does not need to transfer or be lifted manually. Lifts are fitted at the side or rear door of vans, SUVs, minibuses, ambulances and taxis.
Which type of wheelchair lift do you need?
| Lift type | Best for | Main advantage | Things to check |
|---|---|---|---|
| Double-arm platform lift (e.g. LIFT-BP, BP 2P) | Vans and minibuses carrying a power or manual chair | Smooth, level lift; some models include an emergency hand pump | Platform size vs your wheelchair; cargo space left inside |
| Compact lift for low-roof vehicles | Vehicles with limited roof height | Stows with less height clearance | Door opening and roof height on your model |
| Split vertical lifter | Side-door or rear-door installs where the platform must split and fold | Platform divides to save space when stowed | Floor layout and seat positions |
| Under-vehicle cassette lift | Users who want the cabin kept clear | Mounts below the floor and deploys on demand, so no interior space is lost | Ground clearance and underbody space; typically the highest price on our range |
| Wheelchair / scooter carrier or hoist (not an occupant lift) | Moving an empty chair or scooter; the user transfers to a seat | Lower cost, simple | Does not lift a person in the chair. See boot hoists and the AL001 Universal Carrier |
Wheelchair lift or ramp: which is better for your van?
A lift suits a standard high-floor van that you want to keep as it is. A ramp suits vehicles with a lowered floor or a rear conversion.
| Wheelchair lift | Vehicle ramp / lowered-floor conversion | |
|---|---|---|
| Works on a standard high-floor van | Yes, fitted to the existing vehicle | Usually needs floor modification |
| Handles a tall entry height | Yes | Slope becomes long and steep |
| Space inside the vehicle | Platform stows in or under the vehicle | Ramp stows flat or folds |
| Cost | Lower than a full conversion | Higher for a full conversion |
| Best when | You keep your current van | You are converting or buying a new accessible vehicle |

How much does a wheelchair lift for a van cost in the UAE?
Wheelchair lifts on this page range from AED 16,699 to AED 36,199 excl. 5% VAT, depending on the model.
Final cost depends on:
- Lift type. Compact and double-arm lifts sit at the lower end. Under-vehicle cassette lifts are at the top.
- Your vehicle. Door size, floor height and roof clearance change how much fitting work is needed.
- Wheelchair size and weight. A heavy power chair needs a higher-capacity platform.
- Controls and options. Remote control, platform lighting and similar extras.
- Installation requirements. Some vehicles need reinforcement or extra wiring.

Will a wheelchair lift fit my vehicle?
Most high-floor vans with a suitable side or rear door can take a lift, but fit depends on the exact model, door opening, floor height and, for some lifts, the underbody. We regularly assess vehicles such as the Toyota Hiace and similar vans, minibuses and SUVs. Our Hyundai Staria conversion is an option if you would rather start with a purpose-converted vehicle.
To check fit, send us:
- Vehicle make, model and year
- Door where you want the lift (side or rear)
- Wheelchair or scooter type and total weight with the user
- Whether the vehicle is private, fleet, taxi or ambulance
Are wheelchair lifts approved for use on UAE roads?
Fitting a lift is a vehicle modification. In Dubai, modifications for people of determination are assessed through a medical assessment and an RTA inspection, and the modified vehicle must pass an RTA licensing inspection afterwards. Requirements differ by vehicle type, private or commercial use, and emirate, so confirm with the relevant authority before you buy. Our team can advise you on the process for your vehicle.

Our installation process
- Vehicle check. We confirm your vehicle model, door opening and floor layout.
- Lift selection and quote. We match the lift to your wheelchair and vehicle.
- Installation. Our technicians fit the lift, typically within a few hours to one day depending on the vehicle and lift model.
- Safety test and handover. We test the lift, show you and your caregivers how to use it, including the emergency manual operation, and explain servicing.
Safety features to look for
- Slip-resistant platform and roll-stops to keep the wheelchair on the platform
- Emergency hand pump or manual operation if the vehicle battery fails (e.g. the BP 2P includes an emergency hand pump)
- Controls by handheld unit, platform buttons or remote (varies by model)
- Weight capacity: models here are typically rated 250 to 350 kg; the BP 2P lists 320 kg. Always compare capacity against the user plus the wheelchair.
- Platform lighting and warning indicators where fitted

Frequently asked questions
Can a wheelchair lift be installed in my existing van?
Usually yes. Most high-floor vans with a suitable side or rear door can be fitted with a lift. Fit depends on door size, floor height and roof clearance, so send us your vehicle model and we will confirm which lift suits it.
How much does a wheelchair lift for a van cost in the UAE?
Lifts on this page range from AED 16,699 to AED 36,199 excl. 5% VAT depending on the type. Compact and double-arm lifts cost less; under-vehicle cassette lifts cost more. Your vehicle and wheelchair determine the final price.
What is the difference between a wheelchair lift and a ramp?
A lift raises the user vertically to the vehicle floor and can be fitted to a standard high-floor van. A ramp needs a lowered floor or a modified entry to keep the slope usable. Choose a lift to keep your current van; consider a ramp or conversion for a new accessible vehicle.
How much weight can the lift carry?
Models here are typically rated between 250 kg and 350 kg; for example, the BP 2P is rated 320 kg. Add the user’s weight and the wheelchair’s weight together and keep the total below the rated capacity.
Does the lift work if the vehicle battery fails?
Many electro-hydraulic lifts have an emergency manual option. For example, the BP 2P includes an emergency hand pump. Confirm the backup method on the specific model you choose, and ask us to show you how to use it at handover.
How long does installation take?
Typically a few hours to one day, depending on the vehicle and the lift model. We confirm the time when we quote.
Do I need RTA approval to fit a wheelchair lift in Dubai?
A lift is a vehicle modification, so the vehicle may need to be inspected and approved. In Dubai, modifications for people of determination are assessed with an RTA inspection. Rules vary by vehicle and use, so check with the RTA or relevant emirate authority and ask us for guidance.
Is a wheelchair lift the same as a boot hoist?
No. A wheelchair lift raises a person sitting in the wheelchair. A boot hoist lifts an empty folded wheelchair or scooter into the vehicle while the user sits in a car seat. See our boot hoists if you only need to load the chair.
Do you offer warranty and servicing?
Yes. Our lifts carry warranty and are supported by after-sales service, maintenance and spare parts at our Dubai service centre. See the warranty policy for the terms of each product.
Do you install across the UAE?
We supply and install from Dubai and serve Abu Dhabi, Sharjah, Ajman, Ras Al Khaimah, Fujairah and Umm Al Quwain. Contact us to confirm scheduling and any travel charge for your location. See our delivery and shipping details.
Can fleets, taxis and ambulances order multiple lifts?
Yes. We supply lifts for accessible taxis, community transport, hospital and medical transport vehicles. Contact us for fleet quotes and installation scheduling.
Not sure which lift fits your van?
Send your vehicle make, model and year plus your wheelchair type, and we will recommend the right lift.
