Quick answer: A stair climber is a portable, battery-powered device that carries a person up and down stairs on motorised tracks, with no permanent installation. Gilani Mobility supplies two types in Dubai and across the UAE: the EZYSTAIRS Automatic Stair Climber Chair (seated carrier, 160kg capacity, from AED 4,199 excl. VAT) and the STAIRUP Climber Wheelchair Lift (carries your own manual wheelchair, 200kg capacity, AED 5,999 excl. VAT). Both weigh 33kg net and fold for storage and transport.

Stair Climber Chairs and Wheelchair Stair Climbers in Dubai

Many buildings in Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Sharjah have stairs but no lift: villas, townhouses, older apartment blocks, mezzanines, clinics and shops. For someone who cannot manage steps, that can mean being stuck on one floor. A stair climber solves it without building work. It is a compact, tracked machine operated by a carer or trained attendant, so the same unit can serve a home, a care facility or a multi-storey site.

Gilani Mobility is a Dubai-based mobility and accessibility specialist. You can see these products at our Al Garhoud showroom, and our team supports every order across the UAE.

Who Uses a Stair Climber?

  • Families and carers supporting an elderly parent or a family member with limited mobility in a villa or townhouse.
  • Care homes, clinics and hospitals that need to move patients between floors where lifts are unavailable or out of service.
  • High-rise and multi-storey buildings where staff may need to move a person who cannot use the stairs.
  • Emergency and ambulance services, where portable stair equipment is often useful.

Stair Climber vs Stair Lift vs Platform Lift vs Evacuation Chair

  • Stair climber (this category): portable and battery-powered, moves between any staircases, needs a carer or attendant to operate it, and requires no installation.
  • Stair lift: a seat fixed on a rail along one staircase, best when the same person uses the same stairs every day and can operate it independently.
  • Platform lift: a permanent lift that carries a wheelchair and user between levels, suited to entrances and short rises.
  • Evacuation chair: a lightweight, manual chair for descending stairs in an emergency. It needs no power or charging, which is why we recommend it for building evacuation plans.

How to Choose a Stair Climber

  • User weight: check the combined load. With a wheelchair lift, include the weight of the wheelchair.
  • Operator strength and training: a stair climber is operated by a person on the handle. Make sure the operator is comfortable with the machine and the load, and practise several times without an occupant first.
  • Stair type: measure stair width, landing space and the angle of the staircase. The STAIRUP is rated for slopes between 30° and 60°.
  • Battery and charging: plan where the unit is charged and stored. The STAIRUP takes about 5 hours to charge.
  • Storage and transport: both models fold, to roughly 1 metre long, so they can be stored in a cupboard or moved between sites.

Safety Notes

Never leave a person unattended on a stair climber. Always secure the occupant, and with the wheelchair lift, secure the wheelchair to the unit before climbing. Avoid sudden position changes and follow the user manual. Both product pages include downloadable manuals and CE documentation.

Stair Climber FAQs

What is a stair climber chair?

It is a portable, battery-powered machine that carries a seated person up and down stairs on motorised tracks. It is operated by a carer or attendant and does not need to be installed on the staircase.

What is the difference between a stair climber chair and a stair climber wheelchair lift?

With a stair climber chair such as the EZYSTAIRS, the person sits in the climber’s own seat. With a wheelchair lift such as the STAIRUP, the person stays in their own manual wheelchair, which is locked onto the climber.

How much does a stair climber cost in Dubai?

The EZYSTAIRS Automatic Stair Climber Chair is AED 4,199 excluding VAT, and the STAIRUP Climber Wheelchair Lift is AED 5,999 excluding VAT. Contact us to confirm current pricing and availability.

What is the weight capacity?

The EZYSTAIRS supports up to 160kg and the STAIRUP up to 200kg. With the STAIRUP, make sure the operator can safely handle the combined weight of the user and wheelchair.

Do stair climbers need installation?

No. They are portable units and are not fixed to the staircase, so the same unit can be used wherever there are stairs.

Can one person operate a stair climber?

Yes, they are designed to be controlled by one attendant using the handle and control panel. We recommend practising several times without an occupant first, and never leaving a user unattended on the unit.

How long does the battery take to charge?

The STAIRUP takes about 5 hours to charge and its lithium battery is rated for more than 1,000 charge cycles. Contact us for charging details on the EZYSTAIRS.

Should I buy a stair climber or an evacuation chair for emergencies?

A stair climber is a powered unit for regular use between floors. For building evacuation plans, a dedicated evacuation chair is lighter, fully manual and needs no charging. Many buildings keep both.

Do you deliver stair climbers across the UAE?

Yes. We ship anywhere in the UAE, including Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Sharjah, Ajman, Ras Al Khaimah, Fujairah and Umm Al Quwain. Contact us to confirm availability and delivery time.
